Umpire Richard Kettleborough had altered the cricket laws during the match between India and Bangladesh in the ICC World Cup 2023. He was accused of trying to change the rules for star batsman Virat Kohli.
The Umpire didn't give a clear wide ball when the Indian legend was playing at 97 score against Bangladesh in an apparent attempt to help him complete his century and make a record. This act has been taken negatively on media being pointed as altering cricket rules for one person.
However, it's worth noting that Kohli completed his century despite the controversy. India secured a clinical victory against Bangladesh in the World Cup, maintaining their excellent record, thanks to a standout performance with the ball and Kohli's century.
Bangladesh aimed to trouble the Indian team, but the absence of captain Shakib Al Hasan made it a challenging task. Ultimately, India's strong batting, led by Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli's centuries, secured the victory.
