The religious scholar was taken into custody while travelling to Jhang near Muzaffargarh and was shifted to undisclosed location for interrogation.
A district and sessions court dismissed the bail request of Mufti Abdul Qavi and issued orders to the police to arrest him in connection with the murder of model and social media star Qandeel Baloch . However, the suspect immediately fled from the court after court rejected his bail plea.
The district and sessions judge resumed hearing of the case during which Mufti Abdul Qavi escaped from the court after his bail plea was dismissed.
Talking to media after appearing before the court, he had said that he presented himself before the court, adding that he will accept whatever would be the decision of the court.
Qavi, who was heavily censured for clicking ‘selfie’ photographs with slain social media celebrity Qandeel, has been investigated in connection with her murder.
The cleric has repeatedly denied any involvement in Qandeel’s murder but had stated that he would present himself to the police for questioning upon being summoned.
Rising to fame through her Facebook videos, in which she danced, proposed to politicians and made bold statements against the cleric in attempts of bringing him to shame, she was eventually put to silence in July last year at the hands of her own brother who confessed to strangling her to death over the so-called ‘honor’ of the family.
