8pc budget allocated to fight climate change effects: PM

Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi says Pakistan is effectively dealing with the phenomenon of greenhouse effect.
Addressing Science Policy Conference on Climate Change in Islamabad today [Monday], he said Pakistan has only one percent of the greenhouse footprint.
The Prime Minister said Pakistan has allocated eight percent of its budget to fight the effects of climate change under its national environment policy.
He said the Parliament has also taken action and National Climate Change Authority and National Climate Change Council have been created.
Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said Pakistan has ratified the Paris Agreement on Climate Change in 2015 and s following the principles therein to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions by 20 per cent.
He said climate change has become one of the biggest challenges for mankind and has united international community at one platform for action against its hazards.
He said Pakistan fortunately has a very clean energy niche with its fifty percent of primary energy coming from gas and another twenty percent from hydropower and other renewable resources.
He said Pakistan has a zero import of furnace oil and is running the related power houses on imported liquefied natural gas.
