ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday has announced theverdict in the appeals of Sharif family against the NAB Court conviction.
IHC has suspended jail terms of former premier Nawaz Sharif, his daughterMaryam Nawaz and son-in-law Captain (retd) Muhammad Safdar.
A two-judge bench comprising Justice Athar Minallah and Justice MiangulHassan Aurangzeb heard the petitions filed by former premier Nawaz Sharif,his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Capt (retd) Safdar challenging theAvenfield verdict against them.
Justice Minallah read the judgment and ordered the release of the formerpremier, his daughter and son-in-law.
National Accountability Bureau (NAB) prosecutor Akram Qureshi concluded hisarguments in the case. During Tuesday’s hearing, the bench had directedQureshi to conclude his arguments within 30 minutes and said that a verdictwill be announced today even if arguments are not concluded.
After the NAB prosecutor concluded his arguments, Nawaz’s counsel, KhawajaHarris, presented brief arguments following which the court reserved itsjudgment.
A large number of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders, includingShehbaz Sharif, Pervaiz Rashid and Khurram Dastgir, are present in thecourtroom for the hearing.
