Misbah-ul-Haq has come to the defense of current captain Babar Azam amid increasing criticism of the national team's Asia Cup performance. Misbah-ul-Haq, who also serves as the PCB Technical Committee Chairman, addressed concerns about Pakistan's recent struggles in cricket during a press conference today.
During the conference, Misbah acknowledged that there were errors made during the Asia Cup but remained optimistic about the team's potential in the upcoming World Cup. He expressed, "While our performance in the Asia Cup was disappointing, it's crucial to recognize that cricket is a dynamic sport, and setbacks are part of the journey. The team's confidence has taken a hit, but our focus should now be on enhancing our performance."
Misbah-ul-Haq stressed that the 228-run defeat was not solely the responsibility of Captain Babar Azam but a collective failure of the entire team.
He stated, "We've overcome challenging situations before, and I believe this team has the capacity to rise to the occasion."
Regarding calls for significant changes in the team, Misbah-ul-Haq cautioned against making hasty decisions, pointing out that the current situation did not permit extensive alterations.
He cautioned, "Implementing too many changes at this stage could disrupt the team's chemistry and morale, which would be counterproductive. We need to work with the players we have and help them improve."
