The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has imposed a penalty of Rs35 million on Sarina Isa, wife of Supreme Court Judge Qazi Faez Isa, in a case related to disclosure of foreign properties.
Sources told *The Express Tribune* on Friday that the FBR has ruled that Sarina is liable to pay tax liabilities of Rs35 million over non-disclosure of three properties in the United Kingdom.
Under the Supreme Court June 19 order, Sarina may avail all legal options against the FBR order.
Raising doubts over the 164-page order issued on September 14, Sarina accused FBR official Zulfiqar Ahmed of creating “artificial tax liability of over Rs35 million” against her.
“I don’t even know if he wrote the order himself,” she said in her written response vowing to challenge the FBR verdict.
She termed the FBR’s verdict “a piece of fiction”, saying the ruling was issued without hearing her and the FBR official “condemned her unheard”.
Last month, Sarina Isa had disputed the FBR assessment about her income as well as the value of her foreign properties.
