Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed optimism about the potential for economic cooperation between Pakistan and Russia during a meeting with caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar. Putin emphasized that their economic cooperation had significant room for growth and indicated that they would discuss this matter. This meeting took place on the sidelines of the third Belt and Road Forum in Beijing, where both leaders were in attendance.
The third Belt and Road Forum, a two-day event, commenced with the participation of various world leaders. Chinese President Xi Jinping hosted a state banquet, attended by leaders from countries such as Russia, Kenya, Ethiopia, Mongolia, Hungary, Sri Lanka, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Papua New Guinea, Mozambique, and Chile.
During their meeting, President Putin mentioned the importance of listening to each other's colleagues and sharing visions to enhance cooperation in various areas. Pakistan and Russia had recently resolved issues related to the supply of crude oil, which had a positive impact on their bilateral relations.
Russia had agreed to provide crude oil, petrol, and diesel to Pakistan at discounted rates, contributing to diversifying Pakistan's energy sources.
In this context, President Putin emphasized that the joint intention was to ensure regional security and stability.
He noted that Russia has traditionally been a supplier of food, including cereals, and their trade with Islamabad has shown substantial growth, with one million tons of cereals supplied to Pakistan in the current year.
