UN Security Council takes important decision over Afghanistan UNAMA

The UN Security Council has renewed the mandate of its mission in Afghanistan, which is ruled by Afghan Taliban.

The one-year extension of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan received 14 votes from the 15-member body. Russia abstained from voting.

The resolution includes several strands of cooperation, on the humanitarian, political and human rights fronts, including those of women, children and journalists.

The resolution was moved by Norwegian UN Ambassador Mona Juul.
