ISLAMABAD-United Nation has expressed concern over rise in women prisoners worldwide and their safety amid coronavirus.
During a briefing to UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, Head of Field Operations and Technical Cooperation at OHCHR Georgette Gagnon told that more than 700,000 women are in prison around the world and that number is growing much faster than men.
Georgette Gagnon warned that overcrowding in jails could led to serious harm.
She said that women detainees face inhuman and degrading treatment during arrest, interrogation and in custody.
