ISLAMABAD-In India, religion and caste based discrimination is rising under Modi's Hindutava regime.
A lower-caste Dalit couple attempted suicide after police beat them and destroyed their crops in central Madhya Pradesh state.
An online video showing half a dozen police officers dragging and beating the couple with sticks has been viewed more than one million times since it was posted on Tuesday.
The incident has drawn widespread outrage and calls for action.
Kumari Mayawati, a Dalit political leader, on Twitter termed it "most cruel and shameful".
