Pervaiz Rashid demands swift decision on appeals against Avenfield verdict

ISLAMABAD: PML-N leader Pervaiz Rashid said the appeal against the Avenfield verdict should be decided as swiftly as the case itself.

A case that usually goes for as long as 10 years was decided in weeks and the sentences were also announced, he told the media outside the Islamabad High Court on Tuesday. To maintain the merits of justice, we are hopeful that the appeal against the conviction will also be decided swiftly, he said.

A two-member bench, comprising Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani and Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb, will hear the appeals against the Avenfield verdict at the Islamabad High Court.

An accountability court awarded 11 years to former PM Nawaz Sharif, eight years to his daughter Maryam Nawaz Sharif, and one year to his son-in-law Captain (retd) Safdar. All three are currently in jail. Their lawyers obtained the signatures of their clients on Sunday and filed the appeals on Monday. APP
