Former PM Imran Khan faces another jolt from the court

A plea to halt proceedings against former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi in the Iddat case was dismissed by a District and Sessions Court in Islamabad. Imran Khan, the PTI founder, is accused of marrying Bushra Bibi during her 'iddat,' a waiting period observed by Muslim women after the termination of a previous marriage.
During the case hearing in Adiala jail, petitioners' counsel Usman Gil and Khalid Yusuf contended that the ongoing court proceedings had already been challenged in the Islamabad High Court.
They argued that as the marriage falls under the jurisdiction of the higher court, the proceedings should be suspended until the Islamabad High Court adjudicates their plea.
The counsel further emphasized that despite Bushra Bibi's absence from the court proceedings, she was indicted on January 16.
