ECP responds over PTI allegations against Yousaf Raza Gillani Senate nomination

ISLAMABAD – The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday accepted nomination papers of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader and joint candidate of Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) for Senate elections, Yousaf Raza Gillani.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) reserved its order on the nomination papers of PPP stalwart as it started the process for scrutiny of the nomination papers filed by 179 candidates, who wish to contest the upcoming Senate elections. RO Zafar Iqbal Malik announced the reserved verdict today.

Earlier, PTI’s Fareed Rehman challenged the Gilani nomination papers, claiming that the former PM hid particulars in his nomination papers.

Gillani’s lawyer had contended his client had completed the sentence given to him by the Apex Court.

Yusuf Raza Gilani’s disqualification ended in 2017, the lawyer told the ECP.

The PTI’s counsel argued that Gilani is facing graft references while he is also nominated in 23 first information reports filed by the Federal Investigators and does not qualify under Article 62 and 63.
