KMC starts planting trees instead of sapling in city parks

KARACHI: Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar has said the metropolis should have more than 20 million old and traditional trees to overcome the environmental pollution.
KMC would meet its target of planting one lac saplings, however it would take some time to get the target of 20 million trees. He said 12 to 15 feet high trees were being planted in KMC parks so that citizens could get early benefits from it.
He said this while plating a 15 feet high Gul Maher Tree in Bagh Ibne Qasim, Clifton to start the tree plantation campaign.
Different species were planted in Bagh Ibne Qasim including Gul Maher, Kanjhar, Tebubia, Keshafetlo and other floral trees and these 12 to 15 feet high trees would have flowers in the current year that would give beautiful and refreshing look to the park.
Mayor Karachi said that we have begun planting trees instead of saplings to provide the benefit of these trees within shortest period.
He said such kind of trees were planted in the Bagh Ibne Qasim, Jheel park, Hill Park and other parks and on green belts in the city. He also appealed to citizens of Karachi that every citizen should plant a tree and in this way, we could soon achieve the target of 2 crore trees in Karachi.
He asked the District Municipal Corporations, KDA and other civic bodies and people of Karachi to take part in ongoing green Karachi campaign of KMC to make the city green and beautiful.
