India: voting begins for 2nd phase of general election

In India, voting for second phase of general election to elect a new parliament begins today.   

In the Second phase voting is being held in eleven states to elect representatives on 95 seats.

Around 1,600 candidates are contesting on 95 seats for the second phase of Lok Sabha election 2019.

Elections result will be announced on 23rd of next month.

Meanwhile, Narendra Modi's ruling party has fielded a suspected woman terrorist Pragya Singh Thakur in the ongoing election as a candidate from Bhopal city.

She was involved in a deadly 2008 bomb blast at a mosque in western Maharashtra state's Malegaon city that killed six people and injured 100 others.

Pragya Singh Thakur was arrested shortly after the blast and is out on bail facing charges related to the bomb attack.

The authorities had described her as a leading plotter in the attack.
