KABUL – The so-called “Islamic State” terrorist group, also known as Daesh(in Arab world), has claimed responsibility for the explosion at a weddingin the Afghan capital on Saturday, world media reported on Sunday, citing astatement of the group’s local branch.
The explosion took place at a wedding reception in the west of Kabul onSaturday evening at 22.40 local time (18.10 GMT), leaving at least 63people dead and over 180 injured. Over 1,000 people were believed to havebeen attending the wedding ceremony.
An explosive device was reportedly detonated by a suicide bomber.
The Afghan Interior Ministry said that women and children were among thevictims of the blast.
Afghan President Ashraf Ghani condemned the attack and expressedcondolences to the relatives of the victims.
