BEIJING: The first China-Pakistan Foreign Ministers strategic dialogue willbe held here on Tuesday, Chinese foreign ministry’s spokesperson GengShuang announced here.
“The strategic dialogue will be co-chaired by Foreign Shah Mahmood Qureshiand China’s State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi,” he said duringhis routine briefing.
Giving the detail, the spokesperson said, the two sides will exchange viewson China-Pakistan relations and international and regional issues of commonconcern.
He pointed out that in recent times, India-Pakistan relations and regionalsituation were tense and hoped the two sides were likely to touch thisissue in the dialogue.
“What I want to say here is that as a friendly neighbor of India andPakistan, China actively promotes peace and promotes talks and has played aconstructive role in easing tensions in the near future,” he said.
The Chinese side would continue to encourage India and Pakistan to move inthe same direction, resolve differences through dialogue and jointlysafeguard regional peace and stability, he added.
While commenting on the first meeting between officials of India andPakistan to discuss Kartarpura corridor, he welcomed this latestinteraction between both the countries.
He hoped that the relevant progress would help further promote the easingof India-Pakistan relations and the development of the regional situation.
“India and Pakistan are neighbors who cannot move. It is in the fundamentalinterests of both sides to live in harmony with each other and is also thecommon expectation of the international community,” he added.
The spokesperson also hoped that the two sides would continue todemonstrate goodwill and move in the same direction, to resolve differencesthrough dialogue, improve relations, and jointly safeguard regional peaceand stability.
Responding to a question, he said he was unable to predict which specificissues would be discussed in the strategic dialogue between the foreignministers of China and Pakistan.
“But as I said earlier, the dialogue will definitely involve China-Pakistanbilateral relations and international and regional issues of commonconcern,” he added.
To a question about the listing issue, he said the position of the Chineseside was already very clear and he would not repeat it here.
He emphasized that China would continue to handle this matter in aconstructive and responsible manner and maintain close communication withall parties including India and Pakistan.
