Former Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed his "disappointment" with the Supreme Court's ruling on the NAB amendments case, stating that the "judiciary had reinstated the laws enacted during the dictator's regime."
Speaking to the media in London, Shehbaz, also the President of the PML-N, mentioned that the PTI chairman had amended the NAB law twice through presidential ordinances, providing "relief to his associates."
He raised the question, "Where was Justice Bandial when the NAB law was being altered through presidential ordinances?" In a highly anticipated verdict, the Supreme Court, in a majority decision, granted former Prime Minister Imran Khan's petition challenging amendments made to the National Accountability Ordinance 1999 during the PDM-led government's tenure.
The court ordered the reinstatement of corruption cases against public office holders that had been withdrawn after the changes were made. With a 2 to 1 majority, the apex court directed the reopening of all corruption cases valued at less than Rs500 million that were previously closed against political leaders from various parties and public office holders. The court declared the amendments as invalid.
