CJ Qazi Isa wins hearts of Pakistanis with his kind gesture

In a remarkable moment during Pakistan's oath-taking ceremony, Chief Justice Qazi Isa, newly appointed, made a symbolic gesture by having his wife, Sarina Isa, stand beside him as he took his oath.
This unconventional act caught the attention of many, as he pledged to uphold justice, the rule of law, and the country's Constitution until October 25 next year. Back in 2019, President Dr. Arif Alvi had filed a presidential reference against CJP Isa, which was later dismissed by the apex court in June 2020.
This reference was related to the alleged nondisclosure of foreign properties, and both the chief justice and his family, particularly his wife, were under investigation. The detailed verdict on this case was issued by the top court in January 2022, stating that the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) had acquired the tax records of the judge and his family in an "unlawful" manner.
This act by the Chief Justice has received widespread praise for breaking from tradition and sending a powerful message about the equal role of women. Sherry Rehman, former climate change minister and PPP leader, commented that Justice Qazi Faez Isa's action conveyed an important message about equality and partnership with women. Ahsan Iqbal, a leader from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and former planning minister, also commended this gesture, highlighting Sarina Isa's courage in facing the conspiracy aimed at preventing the chief justice from taking office.
