WhatsApp, the messenger application owned by Meta, has introduced a new security enhancement known as "Protect IP address in calls."
The primary objective of this feature is to bolster the security of calls conducted on WhatsApp, safeguarding users from potential threats like unauthorized access to their location and call eavesdropping.
The discovery of this new feature was first made by WABetaInfo, a reputable source known for tracking upcoming WhatsApp improvements.
Currently, the feature can be found in the latest beta releases of WhatsApp for both Android and iOS. Its functionality involves rerouting calls through WhatsApp servers, effectively shielding users' IP addresses. To activate this additional security layer, users can toggle the option in the "Privacy" settings within the "Advanced" section.
WhatsApp assures users that enabling this feature ensures end-to-end encryption for all calls, making it impossible for even the app itself to access the content of users' conversations.
At present, the feature is accessible to a limited group of beta testers who have installed the most recent beta versions on Android and iOS. It is expected to become available to a wider user base in the coming weeks.
