PM Imran Khan approved central database to curtail smuggling in border areas

ISLAMABAD - Prime Minister Imran Khan has approved to form a central database to curtail smuggling in border areas of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

This was stated by Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting, Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan at a news conference in Islamabad on Thursday night.

She said a high-level meeting was held in Islamabad with Prime Minister Imran Khan in the chair to devise mechanism to discourage smuggling and illegal trade.

The Special Assistant said central database will be formed in coordination with customs intelligence, Federal Board of Revenue, Federal Investigation Agency, Intelligence Bureau and other intelligence agencies.

She said the meeting decided to form Customs Authority and introduction of automation.

Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan said Prime Minister also directed to formulate an effective strategy to bring youth of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in economic support system. She said economic zones will be developed in the districts of border areas and investors will be given relief by declaring them tax free regions. She said skills will be provided to youth of Balochistan and labour class will be sent to Qatar to have alternate earnings.

Responding to a question, Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan said National Action Plan was formulated by all political parties and according to this plan maintenance of law and order is the prime responsibility of state.

She said Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority is an independent institution and it acts as per guidance given in National Action Plan.
