Dozens of Afghan police killed, wounded as election nears

KABUL: In Afghanistan, dozens of police personnel have been killed and 30 others wounded in heavy fighting in northern and central part of the country just days before parliamentary elections.

According to reports, 11 policemen, including the deputy police chief killed and 30 others wounded when Taliban attacked security checkpoints in Samangan province.

Another 15 police were captured along with a large quantity of weapons, vehicles and equipment. The Taliban also suffered heavy casualties.

In the central province of Daikundi, 19 policemen have been killed while eight Afghan soldiers and five police were killed when hundreds of Taliban fighters equipped with heavy weapons attacked checkpoints in Kajran district.
