Uber Rickshaw service launched in Lahore 

LAHORE: (APP) After a successful car taxi service, Uber Pakistan launched rickshaw service in the city which was inaugurated by Chairman Punjab IT Board Dr Umar Saif by taking the first ride at the Arfa Software Technology Park, here on Monday.

The Secretary Excise Punjab Ahmed Bilal, CCPO Lahore Captain (R) Amin Wains, DIG Operations Haider Ashraf, Chief Traffic Officer Lahore Tayyab Cheema and Loic Amado and Uzair Yousaf of the Uber were also present at the event.

Uber service starts in Karachi

Dr Umar Saif said, "Uber Rickshaw is another way of using technology to offer more choice and making life simpler offering cheap and safe mode of transportation." It would also help rickshaw drivers to enhance their earnings through modern technology, he said and added that initiatives like Uber-Auto were a reflection of the way in which Lahorites would embrace the smart technology within transport industry. It was convenient, cheapest and the safest transport one had enjoyed ever.

He added that it was environment friendly as only 4-stroke rickshaws purchased under Chief Minister Green scheme would be accepted by the Uber. It was so affordable that one would be charged only Rs. 50 from Samanabad to Anarkali and Rs. 60 from Arfa Tower to Race Course Park, he said.

Dr. Saif further said that the law enforcement department could leverage on data collected by Uber to ensure security and curb crime in the city, which was endorsed by the senior police officers sitting there in the meeting.

The CCPO expressed pleasure on launching of this service and remarked it as facilitating for police being secure, checked and online. He assured his utmost cooperation to make it a success.

The other officers also discussed anticipated concerns likely be raised in future by this service.
