MULTAN: (APP) BZU-Cardiff University MoU for PhD Exchange Programme

 

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between BZU Communication Studies department and School of Journalism, Cultural Studies,Cardiff University,UK for the placement of  PhD students.

 

The core purpose of the programme is to give the students international exposure and strengthen research potential.

 

The focus will be on providing students the best study environment with the view to create a pool of talented experts in the field of communication and media research.

 

Signing the new agreement,Professor Allan of Cardiff University in his video message said: "We are very excited about this new agreement which will afford us an opportunity to explore different ways in which our respective institutions can collaborate and exchange ideas.

 

"These include exploring some of the pressing social issues that are confronting the world of journalism in our digital age, especially around areas such as teaching and research which are so important to both our universities.

 

"I think it's also an exciting opportunity for staff here at the School of Journalism, Media and Cultural Studies to share our good practice and also to engage in an ongoing and mutually beneficial conversation".

 

The linkage programme can bring Pakistani institution into a wider network of international partnership and the PhD students will be able to develop their research capabilities and contribute to the national development.

 

The Chairman,Department of Communication Studies, Prof. Dr. Ghulam Shabbir in his address congratulated the PhD students,teaching faculty and others on this development.

 

He explained that Cardiff University is among the leading universities in UK and ranked 122nd in 'QS World ranking'. He said that the programme has been officially launched to enhance the research skills and capacity of PhD students enrolled in Department of Communication Studies, Bahuddin Zakariya University,Multan-Pakistan.

 

Dr. Shahzad Ali, Associate Professor, BZU Communication Studies deptt,  and Post Doctoral Fellow at Cardiff University, UK also addressed the ceremony telephonically and said that this programme would enhance the knowledge and research skills of the PhD students on their visit to Cardiff University,UK.

 

He explained that this agreement would last for the period of three years and 4 PhD students would visit Cardiff University, UK on yearly basis.In this way two PhD students will visit after six months interval in a whole year.

 

Visiting students will be treated as full student members,for the period  spent at Cardiff University,and will have access to the library, computing, recreational and social facilities of the University on the same basis as Cardiff University degree-seeking students.

 

Besides a number of students, Prof. Dr. Idress Lodhi, Dr. Imran Sharif, Babar Khaqan, Aqsa Iram, Samia Manzoor, Aamir Rizvi and Muhammad Makkey Bhutta attended the ceremony.
