Turkey for all out support to Pakistan for NSG membership

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has been fully supported by Turkey for the membership of Nuclear Supplier Group while India has to face opposition of New Zealand, Austria and South Africa for NSG membership.

According to the Indian media reports, Pakistan was supported by Turkey for NSG membership during the meeting of NSG member countries that was held last week in Vienna.

Turkey emphasized to reconsider the application of both India and Pakistan for NSG membership simultaneously. During the meeting, South Africa, New Zealand and Austria have strongly opposed India for NSG membership however, according to Indian media New Zealand behavior has eased enough for India support.

Foreign Advisor Sartaj Aziz has established telephonic contact with his Turkish counterpart and thanked for supporting Pakistan in NSG membership.

He also telephoned Austria and Argentina foreign ministers and emphasized for criteria-base approach for NSG membership.

Sources said that Pakistan is hopeful regarding NSG membership if Nuclear Supplier Group would follow merit regarding Non Proliferation Treaty.
