Omar Ayub, a prominent leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), made assertions regarding the future prospects of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja during a media interaction outside the Islamabad High Court (IHC). Ayub alleged that CEC Raja is set to be appointed as an ambassador in a Western country upon his return to Pakistan, as per a report by ARY News.
Ayub criticized CEC Raja, accusing him of indulging in foreign trips for leisure rather than official duties. He specifically mentioned that CEC Raja had left the country for recreational purposes. Additionally, Ayub had previously asserted that efforts were underway by the federal government to designate CEC Raja as the ambassador to Canada.
During a session in the National Assembly on March 13, Ayub demanded the resignation of CEC Raja, citing allegations of electoral misconduct during the February 8 general elections. These accusations were part of a broader discourse surrounding electoral integrity and the conduct of election officials.
In parallel, Ayub raised concerns about pre-election irregularities occurring nationwide in anticipation of an upcoming by-election. He highlighted the reduction in the number of polling stations ahead of the April 21 by-election, where 239 candidates were competing for 23 vacant seats across national and provincial assemblies.
Ayub's remarks underscored the heightened scrutiny and political tension surrounding electoral processes in Pakistan.
