Caretaker Prime Minister Awaar-ul-Haq Kakar stated on Saturday that the government is streamlining the power sector to ensure consumers are not burdened with excessive electricity bills, as reported by Radio Pakistan.
During an interview with a private news network, he emphasized the significance of coordinating the responsibilities across various levels and clearly defining their authority boundaries. The Prime Minister pointed out that a well-functioning democracy requires an accountability mechanism for monitoring public officials, but this process should not destabilize the system.
He referred to the NAB law changes passed by the previous legislature and subsequently overturned by the Supreme Court as "commendable legislation" and affirmed that the government's future actions would be guided by the legal department's counsel.
Additionally, he mentioned the implementation of a comprehensive government strategy, developed in collaboration with the provinces, to combat electricity theft and smuggling, which is showing positive outcomes. Furthermore, he highlighted that apart from tackling power theft, the ongoing campaign will also address issues related to non-payment and late payment of electricity bills.
