PM Kakar breaks silence over reports of political deal with Imran Khan

Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar revealed on Friday that he possesses no knowledge of any political agreements or understandings with the leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). Speaking during an interview with a private news channel, PM Kakar emphasized his government's readiness to fulfill its role in accordance with the Election Commission's decisions regarding the upcoming general elections.

He reiterated that it is the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) that will ultimately announce the election date, underlining the importance of the ECP's stance in this matter.

In another significant statement, Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar expressed his support for the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) law amendments previously enacted by the parliament and subsequently struck down by the Supreme Court. He referred to these amendments as "good legislation" and noted that the government would determine its future actions based on recommendations from the law department.

Kakar also highlighted the presence of various layers of accountability in the country, both at the provincial and national levels, and stressed the need to harmonize their functions and establish clear terms of reference (TORs) for their powers.

Regarding the Supreme Court's decision to annul the NAB law amendments, the prime minister expressed a desire to delve into the reasons behind this verdict and formulate the government's position after gaining a comprehensive understanding of the matter.

He underscored the importance of an effective accountability system within a functioning democracy, emphasizing that while holding public office-holders accountable is essential, it should not hinder the overall functioning of the system. This nuanced approach to accountability reflects the prime minister's commitment to maintaining a balance between oversight and governance.
