On Saturday, in Islamabad, a court granted the Punjab Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) a one-day transit remand for PTI President Chaudhry Parvez Elahi in a corruption case. This marks his "12th arrest" since June 1 after the May 9 protests, as stated by his lawyer.
Elahi is one of many PTI leaders and members arrested during the state's crackdown on PTI leadership following violent riots after Imran's initial arrest on May 9. His recent detention follows a bail grant in a case related to March riots outside the Federal Judicial Complex (FJC) in Islamabad. Elahi's lawyer, Sardar Abdul Razzaq, mentioned that the surety bonds for the previous bail hadn't been submitted, resulting in his client's custody by the ACE.
Razzaq explained that the Punjab ACE had requested a five-day remand for Elahi, but the court approved a one-day transit remand. Elahi would now be transported to Lahore and presented before the relevant anti-corruption court tomorrow.
Regarding reports of Elahi being asked to hold a press conference, Razzaq clarified that Elahi was resolute in his political stance and not inclined to hold any press conference. When asked about Elahi's physical health, the lawyer acknowledged that he was an elderly person and a heart patient but emphasized that he remained in high spirits and had a strong morale.
