Pak-New Zealand Davis cup draws announced

LAHORE (APP)- Pakistani tennis players, Abid Ali Akbar will take on Rubin Statham and Samir Iftikhar will face Rubin Tearney Finn in the singles matches on the opening day of the Group 1 of the Asia Oceana Davis Cup at Wilding Park tennis centre, Christ Church, New Zealand on Friday.
Abid and Samir, both are US based talented tennis players who have the potential to put up a brilliant show against their much fancied opponents.

Abid faces a challenging task as he faces World Number 419 and Newlands number 2, Rubin and Samir will face off with world number 362 and Newlands number 1.
According to information made available to APP by Pakistan Tennis Federation here on Thursday on the second day Aqeel Khan and Abid Ali Akbar will play the doubles.
Both the players are determined to repeat their sterling form in the absence of Pakistan's tennis ace, Asiam ul Haq, which led Pakistan to victory against Indonesia July last in the Asia Oceana Davis Cup Semifinal final (group 2) tie which eventually helped Pakistan qualify in the Elite Group 1 of The Asia Oceana Davis Cup after a decade.

The team which arrived in Christ Church on September 11 is preparing hard to get useful match practice and to acclimatize with weather and tennis surface.
