Amjad Javed Saleemi assumes charge as IGP Punjab

LAHORE: Amjad Javed Saleemi took charge as the Punjab Inspector General of Police and he was presented the guard of honour.

He was appointed as new Punjab IGP on Oct 9, after a notification issued by the Establishment Division.

Saleemi, in his media talk on Monday, vowed that he would work hard in order to improve performance of police
department. He admitted that there was corruption in the police department, but promised to root it out by fortifying
the internal accountability system.

The IGP said: "We will have to improve the process of registration of an FIR. I will ensure all FIRs are lodged
even though it would seem like crime in the province has grown."

Saleemi said that at least 10 per cent of his police force would be at the training institutes to enable them perform better. He said that leading a force of 190,000 was like leading the world's biggest police force, but he was ready to face the challenge.
