Shaheen Shah Afridi breaks silence on assuming captaincy of Pakistan team

Pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi expressed his excitement about leading the national T20 cricket team, conveying his honor and thrill in a post on X (formerly Twitter) last Thursday. He extended his gratitude to the Pakistan Cricket Board and fans for their trust and support in entrusting him with this responsibility.

Having succeeded Babar Azam as the national skipper for T20 cricket on Wednesday, the left-arm pacer faces a significant challenge ahead.

Drawing from his experience leading Lahore Qalandars to victory in the Pakistan Super League's 2022 and 2023 seasons, Shaheen is gearing up for a crucial task – facing New Zealand in January.

The upcoming series against New Zealand includes five T20Is, with Shaheen's leadership at the forefront. Following this, in May, the Shaheen-led side will confront the defending champions of the T20I World Cup, England.

Shaheen, a left-arm fast bowler, pledged to give his best to maintain team spirit and bring glory to the nation on the cricket field. With an impressive record of 64 wickets in 52 T20Is, he is renowned for his ability to swing the new ball effectively.
