DRAP, Custom authorities stop illicit trafficking of controlled drugs

ISLAMABAD: Drug Regulatory Authority Pakistan (DRAP) and Custom authorities in a combined operation raided and stopped the illicit trafficking of purported spurious controlled drugs.

According to details, the blisters of controlled drugs were wrapped in the consignment of cloths being exported to UAE.

The custom authorities contacted with the DRAP Karachi field office on the suspected report of illegal trafficking of drugs from port.

DRAP on the direction of Additional Director Karachi confiscated the huge quantity of drugs weighing 48kg.

According to the initial report, the confiscated drug quantity bears six different batch numbers that were wrapped in bundles of clothes.

DRAP also took the sample of drug on prescribed Form-3 as per DRAP Act 2012 and Drug Act, 2017 and sent to Central Drug Laboratory, Karachi for test and analysis.

FIR has been lodged against the culprits and the case is under investigation with Custom and DRAP. Further actions are under progress too.

It is pertinent to mention here that such controlled drug molecule intermittently become short in the market of Pakistan which might be due to reason of its illicit trafficking by such means.

The drug prices in the gulf region are much higher compared to Pakistan and India, is argued to be another reason for smuggling of such drugs.
