Dawn news fake story: Lahore High Court verdict announced

LAHORE: (APP) Lahore High Court Chief Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah on Wednesday dismissed a petition against the formation of an inquiry committee by the federal government to probe the Dawn news issue.
The chief justice was hearing the petition filed by Pakistan Awami Tehreek's leader Khurram Nawaz Gandapur.
During the hearing, the petitioner's counsel Ishtiaq Chaudhry arguing before the court submitted that the inquiry committee was not formed in accordance with the law. He pleaded the court to set aside the committee and issue directions for inquiry of the Dawn news issue under Pakistan Army Act.
However, a deputy attorney general briefed the court that the government had power to form a commission for inquiry of the issue under Section-3 of the Inquiry and Tribunal Act. He pleaded the court to dismiss the petition being non-maintainable.
The court after hearing arguments of the parties dismissed the petition and observed that the government had power to form a committee under the law.
