Jail Reforms initiatives taken in Punjab

LAHORE: (APP) Jail Reforms initiatives taken in Punjab

 

IG Prisons Mian Farooq Nazir has said that the Prisons Department is taking various steps to facilitate prisoners and their families and visitors.

 

Talking to APP, he said that in three jails of Punjab including Central Jail Gujranwala, District Jail Lahore and District Jail Gujrat, public call offices (PCOs) have been set up. He said that each PCO consists of 24 lines.

 

Besides these jails, the IG added, work is under way to install PCOs at 9 more jails of the province. These jails include central jails of Lahore, Sahiwal, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Bahawalpur and Multan, and district jails of Faisalabad, Sialkot and Sheikhpura.

 

The IG said that through these PCOs, prisoners would largely be facilitated to talk to their family members and legal experts.

 

In the second phase, the IG prisons said, PCOs would also be set up in nine more jails of the province including Central Jail Mianwalai and district jails of Kasur, Okara, Jhelum, Sargodha, Shahpur, Jhang, Multan, and Vehari.
