Kasur tragedy: new footage surfaces as leas fail to make breakthrough

LAHORE: As the law-enforcement agencies failed to make a major breakthrough in the rape and murder case of minor seven-year-old Zainab, the law-enforcers found another footage in which the minor girl is seen running behind the suspect when he beckons her to come after him.

The new footage shows Zainab’s alleged kidnapper beckoning her to come with him, after which the minor girl walks towards him.

The police are so far clueless about the culprit(s) involved in the rape and murder of seven-year-old Zainab, while citizens continued to vent their anger over the gruesome incident.

Zainab went missing on January 4 while heading towards her house after returning from the tuition center. Her bruised body was found a few days later in a dump in the city.

The tragic incident triggered a countrywide movement for justice as the civil society rallied in cities and towns across the country demanding swift action against the culprit(s).

On Sunday, two new images of suspects in Zainab’s rape and murder case in Kasur came to the fore.

On the order of the CM, Punjab Inspector General (IG) Arif Nawaz also visited the city and met the relatives of 12 children murdered after rape. He assured that police would soon apprehend the culprit as all agencies were working towards the goal, but admitted that “there has been no major breakthrough so far”.

Zainab’s father refused to meet IGP Punjab at DPO Office, saying the IG should visit his house if he wants to meet him.

He said that the JIT is working, but there is no progress in the case. “Two teams visited his house on the notice of COAS Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Forensic Lab has started collecting the DNA samples of the residents of Shaheen Street.
