Leaders across the World including Pakistan lose millions of Twitter followers

DUBAI – Celebrities around the world lost millions of followers on Twitterafter the micro-blogging site deleted suspicious accounts.

“This specific update is focused on followers because it is one of the mostvisible features on our service and often associated with accountcredibility,” Vijaya Gadde, Twitter’s legal, policy, and trust and safetylead, wrote in a blog post,link> *ANI *link>reported.

“This week, we’ll be removing locked accounts from follower counts acrossprofiles globally. As a result, the number of followers displayed on manyprofiles may go down.”

“Most people will see a change of four followers or fewer; others withlarger follower counts will experience a more significant drop. Weunderstand this may be hard for some, but we believe accuracy andtransparency make Twitter a more trusted service for public conversation,”Gadde added.

The followers of Twitter’s primary account came down from 62.83 million to55.1million.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday lost nearly 300,000followers, while Congress Party President Rahul Gandhi lost over 17,000followers.

With this clean-up exercise, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj(@SushmaSwaraj) has lost 74,132 followers.

While BJP President Amit Shah was left poorer by 33,363 followers, DelhiChief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has lost 91,555 followers.

Former Jammu and Kashmir CM Omar Abdullah has lost 21,878 followers,SocialBlade.com showed.

According to SocialBlade.com that tracks the number of Twitter followers ona daily basis, Modi’s personal Twitter handle (@narendramodi) lost 2,84,746followers.

The official handle (@PMOIndia) lost 140,635 followers.

Most followed celebrity on Twitter, Katy Perry, lost 1.5 million followerswhile Justin Bieber and Taylor Swift lost about two million followers each.

Amongst politicians, Barack Obama lost two million followers, while USPresident Donald Trump lost 340,000 followers.
