ISLAMABAD: Former army chief General (retd) Mirza Aslam Beg and formerInter-Services Intelligence DG Lieutenant General (retd) Asad Durrani onWednesday appeared before a Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) committeeconstituted to conduct investigation in the Asghar Khan case.

General (retd) Beg and General (retd) Durrani will record their statementstoday.

The FIA on Tuesday constituted a committee to conduct investigation in theAsghar Khan case. The committee is being headed by Ahsan Sadiq, who is aGrade 21 official with the FIA.link>link>

Grade 20 official Dr Usman Anwar, Grade 19 official Dr Rizwan and FIADirector Law Ali Sher Jakhrani are also a part of the committee.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Saqib Nisar on May 9 gave the federalgovernment a week’s time to summon a cabinet meeting to determine whataction to take in light of the 2012 Asghar Khan case verdict.

The attorney general (AG) and head of the FIA appeared before the SupremeCourt over the implementation, or lack thereof, of the apex court’s verdictin the case filed by the late former air chief, Asghar Khan.

During the hearing, Chief Justice Nisar remarked that the court had givenits order in the case and rejected review petitions of former army chiefGeneral Mirza Aslam Beg and former Inter-Services Intelligence DGLieutenant General Asad Durrani, accused of illegally influencing the 1990elections.
