Sindh is witnessing a concerning resurgence of malaria, with over 269,000 cases reported recently.
The areas most severely affected include Hyderabad Division (with over 132,000 cases), Mirpur Khas (with more than 66,000 cases), Larkana (with over 48,000 cases), Sukkur (with over 11,000 cases), Benazirabad (with over 5,000 cases), and Karachi (with over 2,000 cases).
However, the Sindh government has yet to implement concrete measures to tackle this widespread disease. Residents of the province are urging government officials to take action before the situation worsens. Malaria, a mosquito-borne illness, has a significant global presence, impacting millions of people annually. Global statistics underscore its seriousness, with estimates indicating 350 to 500 million infections and 1 to 3 million deaths each year.
This disease predominantly affects impoverished regions. In addition to the concerning rise in malaria, dengue fever is spreading rapidly, particularly in Rawalpindi. This surge has prompted health officials and local authorities in Punjab to increase their vigilance.
