Former Punjab Chief Minister Perviaz Elahi secured bail from an anti-terrorism court in Islamabad on Friday. Elahi had been in custody over alleged involvement in the attack on the Judicial Complex in Islamabad in March this year, coinciding with PTI chairman Imran Khan's appearance in a case. ATC Judge Abu Alhasnaat Zulqurnain granted bail to Elahi and required him to submit surety bonds amounting to Rs20,000.
During the proceedings, the prosecutor informed the judge that Elahi's arrest was based on information from an informant, and the sections applied in the FIR did not permit bail. However, after the prosecutor presented his arguments, Judge Zulqurnain began delivering the judgment in open court.
The judge concluded that Elahi had not even been named in the FIR related to the case for which he was arrested. Furthermore, he noted that the investigation had not yielded any substantial findings despite Elahi's three-day remand. Consequently, he ordered Elahi's release on bail, with the condition of submitting surety bonds.
