Former Pakistan captain and all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez is emerging as a top contender for a significant role within the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) following the lackluster performance of the national team, referred to as the green shirts, in the 2023 World Cup.
Reports suggest that Hafeez is receiving support from Zaka Ashraf, the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board's Cricket Management Committee (CMC), and is expected to secure a key position before the upcoming Australia tour next month.
It has been revealed that Hafeez, himself, has expressed his willingness to take on the responsibility.
In other developments reported on Tuesday, former captain Younis Khan and Mohammad Hafeez are scheduled to meet with Zaka Ashraf, and Sohail Tanveer has also been invited to participate in the discussions.
These meetings led by Zaka Ashraf aim to delve into the reasons behind the team's World Cup defeat and are likely to result in new appointments to the board in preparation for the imminent Australia tour.
Sources indicate that Zaka Ashraf will further extend his cricket-related engagements by attending an ICC meeting in India on November 17. Before departing for India, he is set to hold discussions with captain Babar Azam.
