Computerized voters lists containing the eligible registered voters, have been completed for the scheduled general elections in Azad Jammu & Kashmir to be held on July 21 this year, official sources said.

 

In order to ensure the entries of all eligible voters in the computerized voters lists of Azad Jammu Kashmir, the entries of those voters, whom names were left for enlistment due to any reason, has so far been completed by the AJK Elections Commission with the coordination of the district administration to enable the eligible registered voter to exercise their right of vote in the scheduled July 21 Azad Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Assembly elections, Mirpur Deputy Commissioner Ch. Amjad Iqbal told APP here  late Monday.

 

He said that May 30, this year was the last date for enlistment of the eligible voters in the computerized voters lists, which have so far been updated.

 

The eligible voters, whom names could not had been enlisted, were advised to get their names enlisted in the computerized voters lists in the concerned district offices of the AJK Election Commission.

 

The DC continued that in order to ensure the removal of any errors in the voters lists, an extensive drive has been completed across AJK so far by the stipulated time frame.

 

It may be added that an extensive door-to-door drive for rechecking and updating of the computerized voters lists throughout Azad Jammu Kashmir as well as in Pakistan where Jammu & Kashmir refugees has  been completed so far.

 

According to the official sources, the AJK Election Commission had initiated special steps to update the electoral lists of the eligible voters in AJK as well Jammu & Kashmir refugee voters inhibiting various parts of Pakistan.

 

It may be also added that there are twelve seats of AJK Legislative Assembly - six each for occupied Jammu region and others (AJK citizens living in Pakistan)  and the held Kashmir valley - exclusively meant for the Pakistan-based Jammu & Kashmir refugees settled since 1947 and later on.

 

These seats are filled in through the direct use of right of  vote on adult franchise basis by the registered male and female voters from amongst the Jammu Kashmir refugees and others settled in various parts of Pakistan.

 

The sources said that the updated copies of the recently- updated computerized voters lists have yet been printed. The sources said during the recently completed drive for updating the voters lists, bogus and fake votes as well as the names of the voters who have died, were deleted from the lists.

 

Whereas the new eligible voters were enlisted in the computerized lists during the campaign.

 

In Azad Jammu Kashmir, the drive for making afresh and updating the computerized voters lists was completed within stipulated time frame to ensure the exercise of right of franchise  by all deserving voters in the scheduled July 21 general elections to the AJK Legislature, the sources added.
