Opposition conspiring against dams construction: Vawda

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Water Resources Faisal Vawda said the opposition leadership was conspiring against the construction of water reservoirs in country by making the Mohmand Dam project contract award controversial.

Responding to the speeches of Leader of the Opposition Shehbaz Sharif and Pakistan Peoples Party co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari in the National Assembly, he said the Mohmand Dam contract was awarded transparently. The main aim of opposition was to hinder the progress and prosperity of the country.

Recently, he said former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi had confirmed in his press conference that the contract of Rs 309 billion awarded to joint venture of Descon, owned by Adviser to the Prime Minister on Commerce Abdul Raza Dawood and Chinese company China Gezhouba was awarded in a transparent way.

He said after negotiations with the contractors the government was successfully getting the discount of Rs 6 billion from the dam project.

He said the opposition fearing that their politics would be exterminated, if the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government successfully resolved chronic issues being confronted by the country.
