Govt registers FIR 15,000 power thefts, apprehends 1,500 power thieves: NA told

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Power Omar Ayub Khan informed the National Assembly that the government had registered First Information Report (FIR) against 15,000 power thefts and arrested 1,500 people involved in the heinous crime.
Speaking on point of order, he said the government had launched comprehensive drive against power theft to overcome the inefficiency of the system and maximise recovery.
He said that till date, the ministry had recovered about 1.5 billion from defaulters. The government is also working to improve the distribution system in the country.
The ministry also taking steps to control the power theft.
He said the ministry will add about 3,500 mw electricity in the system before the commencement of summer season.
Minister for Communication Murad Saeed said that the country would progress under the leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan.
He urged leader of the Opposition Shahbaz Sharif to raise people’s issues in the National Assembly.
Speaking in National Assembly in response to speech of Leader of the Opposition Shahbaz Sharif and PPP Co Chairman Asif Ali Zardari, he said the government was constructing Shelter Homes and making efforts to make institutions profitable.
