Rs6b corruption: AC indicts Shajeel Memon, others

KARACHI: An accountability court (AC) on Thursday indicted Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) leader and former Sindh minister Sharjeel Inam Memon and others in alleged corruption case of Rs5.76 billion.
The accountability court (AC) judge heard the case pertaining to the corruption of Rs5.76 billion in the provincial information department against the former provincial minister.
Police produced the PPP leader and others accused in the court.
In today’s proceedings, the AC judge read out the charges framed against Sharjeel Memon.
The PPP leader and other accused denied the charges after which the court summoned witnesses in the next hearing.
On October last year, Sharjeel Memon was taken into custody along with other accused from outside the SHC main building after the court revoked their interim bail in a case pertaining to the corruption of Rs5.76 billion in the provincial information department.
Sharjeel Memon, who had returned to Pakistan in March this year after his two-year-long self-imposed exile, is facing several charges of misappropriation and corruption.
A reference filed against him related to the alleged award of government advertisements at exorbitant rates, causing loss of more than Rs five billion to the national exchequer.
