US voices deep concern over Russia's new space weapons

The United States has voiced deep concern over Russia’s pursuit of weapons, including a mobile laser system to destroy satellites in space as well as its putting into orbit of a new space apparatus inspector.

Addressing the U.N.’s Conference on Disarmament in Geneva, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Arms Control, Yleem D.S. Poblete said, Russia’s pursuit of counter space capabilities is malign behavior.

Meanwhile, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov has said Moscow is ready to discuss its newest strategic weapons with the United States even though they are not part of the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces arms control treaty.
