Spanish Industries Minister resign over Panama Leaks allegations

BARCELONA: Spanish Industries Minister Jose Manuel Soria resigned over Panama Leaks allegation.

Earlier, Mr. Soria denied any link with off-shore companies.

He said “It is completely false that I had a relationship with any company, business or function based in Panama, in Bahamas or in any other tax haven.”

But later Spanish news media revealed that he and his brother headed a company in 2002 in Jersey that linked to his family business.

The media claimed that Mr. Soria was the mayor of Las Palmas in the Canary Islands at that time.

A senior official of Popular Party said “Mr. Soria has been a politician for more than 20 years and has led his political activity in exemplary fashion.”

Soria will appear before the parliament on Monday to explain the matter.

Iceland’s premier Sigmundur David Gunnlaugsson resigned earlier this month after proven linked with an off-shore company according to leaked documents.
