NEW DELHI – Indian PM Narendra Modi lands in hot waters over the stunningclaims made by Islamic scholar Zakir Naik.

Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh on Wednesday (January 15) sparkedoff a huge political row by sharing a video on twitter where controversialIslamic preacher Zakir Naik can be seen claiming that a representative ofPM Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah had approached him tosupport the government over its move to abrogate Article 370 from Jammu andKashmir, Zee news has reported.

Singh asked PM Modi and Shah to clarify if a safe passage was offered bythe Centre to Zakir Naik in return for support on scrapping of Article 370.It is to be noted that 53-year-old Naik left India in 2016 and went toMalaysia.

He is wanted in India for alleged money laundering and inciting terrorismthrough hate speeches.

Sharpening his attack on the BJP, Singh said that the ruling party defamespeople using false allegations and said that it is surprising that theCentre is yet to issue any clarification on claims made by thecontroversial preacher.

“When someone disagrees them: 1- convince him 2- If he does not agree, thenthreaten him 3- If he still doesn’t agree, then lure him by position andmoney 4- If he still does not agree, then defame him by making falseaccusations,” Singh said in a tweet.

The Congress leader asked PM Modi and Shah to reject Naik’s claim and ifthey fail to do so then the people will believe that the claims made byNaik are true.

“Prime Minister and Home Minister should refute these allegations. If theydon’t, then it will be believed that the allegations are correct,” Singhtweeted.
