Sensational claims made about Imran Khan and Nawaz Sharif

Senior journalist Ansar Abbasi suggests that due to the changing political landscape, it is possible that in the 2024 general elections, two of the country's most prominent politicians, Imran Khan and Nawaz Sharif, may not be eligible to participate. In a report for Jang News, Ansar Abbasi presents his analysis, stating that both of these figures are either unfit for contesting elections or holding public office.

While discussions about Imran Khan have primarily revolved around minus-one scenarios recently, it is speculated that Nawaz Sharif may successfully clear allegations to participate in future elections.

The PML-N still holds this belief, but the latest developments in the Supreme Court's Practice and Procedure Act have reduced the possibilities of clearing Nawaz Sharif's allegations.

The PML-N's opinion is that amending the Election Act will benefit Nawaz Sharif and eliminate the need to seek redress from the Supreme Court, as they have already served their five-year disqualification period. However, legal experts argue that without constitutional amendments or Supreme Court decisions, Nawaz Sharif's disqualification can be revised within the legal framework.

Imran Khan has been sentenced to three years in jail in the Toshakhana case, although the execution of his sentence has been delayed. Due to this sentence, he is ineligible to participate in elections for five years.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has filed an appeal against Imran Khan's sentence in the Islamabad High Court, but appeals against such sentences are generally not expedited. Additionally, Imran Khan is currently in jail as part of the Cipher case. He and Shah Mahmood Qureshi are expected to be formally charged in the case next week. The conclusion of this case is also expected in a few months.

In addition to these cases, more serious and complex cases are being prepared against the PTI chairman.
