Number of dengue cases reaches alarming

RAWALPINDI: The total number of Dengue cases has reached to 170 which is an alarming development but no death has been reported due to so far as health department is on high alert to cope with any situation.

District Focal person District Health Authority Dr Zeeshan while talking to APP here Sunday, said as the present weather is suitable for breeding of dengue larvae and the number is continuously increasing ,the Health Authority have made arrangements to control the situation.

Dr said most cases are being reported from cantonment and federal capital areas following the lack of proper surveillance and preventive measures by the concerned authorities as the department have some hurdles to reach at sensitive places.

He informed that health authority has formed a special team comprising eight members who was carrying out fogging in the federal capital area specially in Tarnol and Sabzi mandi areas.
He said that the Deputy Commissioner has directed the concerned officials to complete the updated report of dengue surveillance and sent it to Station Commander Rawalpindi Cantonment Board(RCB) for carrying out surveillance in prohibited areas.

The DHO told that so far Dengue has not claimed any life in the district and most of the patients affected with the disease have returned to their home after successful treatment in allied hospitals.

He said that storage of water at open places, open drains in city while no dengue surveillance and non-reporting of dengue patients in federal capital and cantonment areas has increased the number of dengue patients in Rawalpindi.

Health officer said that the department has expedited surveillance activities or tracing larva and its eradication besides focusing on hotspots where larva has been detected during current checking.
He said that that maximum arrangements for the treatment of dengue fever patients; besides all possible preventive measures have been taken to meet any eventuality.

Zeeshan asked the residents to use mosquito net or mosquito repellents like mats and coils and not panic as dengue fever is curable with timely and proper treatment,adding threat of dengue fever spread will end soon as the weather conditions change ,he added.
